What are some tips for a first-time traveler to Spain?

I plan on moving to Madrid for 3 months as a “test trial” (I will most likely migrate there after my trip). My Spanish is quite limited and I will be traveling alone. What are some tips/suggestions for a first-time traveler to Spain? Also, what’s the best way to meet some new people once I am there?

“Join Facebook groups like Expats in Madrid and Madrid Expats, to try to link up with people with your interests. You can probably find people to go running with, play football with, etc- sports are helpful. Also go to Intercambios- language exchanges held at bars or cafes.”

“Join a Spanish language class once there. You will make friends there but be prepared with online lessons before you get there.”

“Meetups, language exchanges, language classes, clubs, pick up basketball games. Just find the social type activity you’d want to do at home and try it here.”

“The INC – Newcomers Club of Madrid saved me when I first moved to Madrid. Local area coffee meet-ups for asking questions about where to buy / find things locally, but larger monthly meet-ups for all areas to come together. Walking tours, events. I felt right at home very quickly https://www.incmadrid.org. When do you plan to arrive? Madrid empties out a lot during the summer months (including me!) but it all picks up again in September.”
