Spain Digital Nomad Visa: My Application Experience and Timeline – November 2024

Just sharing our Spain Digital Nomad Visa timeline, from document collection abroad to our latest milestone: collecting our TIEs. I hope this helps others along the way!

Spain Digital Nomad Visa Timeline

Q1 2024:
We started researching this residence permit and its process. During this time, we applied for our NIEs at the consulate in our home country. While we submitted our applications on different days, the turnaround time for both was about two weeks.

Q2 2024:
We applied for our digital certificates and completed the personal verification at the consulate. My husband received his certificate within a week, but mine took nearly two months.

July 2024:
After a delay, I finally received my digital certificate, and we started collecting documents outside Spain, such as criminal background checks and certificates of good standing, and obtaining apostilles.

August–September 2024:
We monitored TIE appointment availability and successfully booked fingerprinting appointments for October 31. Documents were sent for translations.

September 18 2024:
We arrived in Spain, paid the necessary fees, and submitted our applications with our digital certificate, signing everything digitally without printing.

September 27 2024:
We obtained the padrón after securing a long-term rental. While not required in Valencia for TIE, we needed it for future administrative processes.

October 7 2024:
Our applications were approved with no additional requirements.

October 31 2024:
We had our fingerprints collected at the Patraix office in Valencia.

November 1–21 2024:
We monitored lote reception using the same website where we booked the fingerprint appointment. Alternatively, you can call 963 703 256 to check the latest lote received. Our lote was received on November 21 at the Comisaría de Marítimo

Note: TIEs processed at Patraix (Valencia) are collected at the Comisaría de Marítimo, not at Patraix and no appointment is required.

November 22:
We picked up our TIE cards at the Comisaría de Marítimo with no appointment required. The process included passport verification and fingerprint scanning.

Now, with our TIE cards in hand, we’re enjoying the benefits of this simple yet powerful card. Trust me—doors truly open once you have your TIE!

Conclusion

The Spain Digital Nomad Visa process involves multiple steps, from obtaining an NIE to finalizing the TIE card collection. Applying for a digital certificate early, monitoring appointment availability, and ensuring all documents are translated and apostilled are key to a smooth process.

Different consulates may have varying requirements, so it is essential to check their specific guidelines and timelines. Once approved, the TIE card provides numerous benefits for expats in Spain.
