Is it true that the Spanish NIE can be extended up to 6-months?

Question

I have seen a post on another group stating that if you have a Spanish NIE the 3 month stay can be extended to 6 months. Can anyone verify this?

“Not with an NIE”

“Just with a NIE number no it makes no difference, still only 90/180”

“The NIE on your visa is good for 90 day during which most of us get our residency. If your visa expires, you can probably stay as a tourist for a another 90 days although it is a waste of your investment in your visa.”
