Our Story
SpainGuru was born out of the experiences and determination of three American expats who embarked on a transformative journey in the heart of Spain. We understand the trials and tribulations of navigating the intricate path to Spanish work residency because we’ve been there ourselves. Through our collective journey, we discovered that the road to residency may seem long and confusing, but it’s one filled with hope, opportunities, and dreams fulfilled.
Christina Samson, Shaheen Samavati, and Stacey Taylor, each with their unique backgrounds and stories, found themselves in Spain for various reasons. Christina’s adventure began as a year abroad, where she became an English language teaching assistant. Shaheen arrived in Madrid to pursue her studies at IE Business School, and Stacey bought her plane ticket almost on a whim, driven by curiosity and a desire for adventure.
Despite our diverse paths, we all shared a common goal: the pursuit of permission to live and work in this captivating country we now call home. Along this exhilarating journey, we’ve also been active on social media, sharing our experiences and insights with the expat community.
Christina has been the driving force behind Madrid’s largest English-speaking expat Facebook group, boasting over 25,000 members. Stacey has made a name for herself through her La Guiri Habla blog and has even become a minor YouTube celebrity. Shaheen has emerged as a reliable resource for expats through her American Expats in Spain Facebook group and her role as a content manager for the expat housing resource Spotahome.com.
In 2021, Bruno Bianchi, Shaheen’s husband, joined Spainguru and expanded the initial expats community to a group of communities (NLV, DNV, GV) of more than 40K members, launching Spainguru’s Youtube channel, with more than 400 videos as of 2023. During this time, Spainguru added partners such as immigration and tax experts, health insurance, sworn translators, apostille services, consulate appointments and much more.
Now Bruno is the CEO & Owner of Spainguru.es.

With a deep well of knowledge and a strong network of contacts within the expat community, we felt compelled to combine our expertise and create a platform to simplify the process for fellow non-European expats looking to make Spain their long-term home. SpainGuru is the culmination of our shared experiences and the wisdom we’ve gained throughout our individual journeys.
