Question
I hold an American/Dominican dual citizenship going to Spain soon. Since I am a dominican citizen but born in the USA, will that still qualify me for the Spanish citizenship two year fast track program for Latin Americans?
Answers
These are the answers of some Facebook group members:
”If you processed your visa with you Dominican passport. Of course there is a way with your American passport but there will be added bureaucracy”
”I can attest to this. Wish we had never entered on US Passports. It can be done, but for us it is creating a level of bureaucracy we would never have dealt with if we had used the Mexican passports. ”
”There is no added bureaucracy just because someone uses their US passport for their initial visa”
”You apply for the 2 year citizenship with your Dominican passport here in Spain. If coming over from the US on NLV you would apply at your local Spanish consulate with US passport and let them know you have a Dominican passport as well”

”Im Dominican American. I have a Dominican passport thru my parents and my children through their grandparents. We’re all eligible to gain Spanish citizenship. We initially did our paperwork for the NLV with our American passport but then did our renewal with the Dominican. Now in a year we will all be eligible to solicit the Spanish nationality. I have some resources that I gained from this group if you want to DM me”
”So you had a right to the passport through your birth. You wouldn’t have had the right to apply for citizenship within 2 years if you’d got the Honduran passport through residency or other form of naturalisation”
”I’m also Dominican first-generation American and I’m in the process of obtaining my Dominican passport so I can get on the DNV and get on the 2 year track. It’s been difficult to understand what’s going on with the US and the SSA requirements. I hope something gets resolved soon”
”My wife was US/Peru and when we moved to Spain, we did it on the US passports. After two years or residency she applied for Spanish nationality under the IberoAmerican provision. No problems, no additional paperwork. The citizenship application form has a specific spot to enter additional nationalities and they processed her as a Peruvian”
So according to Spainguru Facebook group members, as an American/Dominican dual citizen, you can qualify for the Spanish citizenship 2-year fast track program for Latin Americans. It is recommended to enter Spain using your Dominican passport and apply for the program with your Dominican passport while in Spain. There shouldn’t be additional bureaucracy if you initially entered Spain on your US passport. Ensure to follow the specific guidelines provided by the Spanish consulate and provide any necessary documentation for the application.
