Question
“I got my Spain Digital Nomad Visa last year and now I am autonomo (Freelancer). I want to know if any of you DNV autonomos use Wise or Revolut autonomo accounts?
My gestor is saying you cannot pay taxes automatically from these accounts? I would appreciate if anyone has the answer please?”
Answers
These are the answers of Spainguru’s Facebook group members:
“My Gestor has said the same so I use a Spanish bank account. If you don’t trust your Gestor, who can you trust.”
“We too have been given conflicting information re Wise. We use our Wise account for day to day expenses and have opened an N26 account with Spanish Iban for once our autonomous is set up and we need to pay taxes.”
“I use Wise to transfer from my USA account into my Spanish account.”
“I recommend a BBVA online account and you can use Wise to transfer to that account from your foreign account. The N26 accounts don’t work for both the tax office and the social security office, so that’s not a great option. The BBVA account does and it has no minimum and no fees.”
“Britt Ivy does BBVA charge a lot to receive pounds from invoices and automatically convert to euros? Or can you get your client to send to Wise and then send to BBVA? Thanks”
“Esther Hunter That I don’t know. My US clients pay me in my US bank account and I use Wise to transfer the funds to BBVA in Spain. Maybe receive payments from your clients in a Wise account and then transfer to the Spain bank account from there.”
“I paid my taxes from N26.”
“It might have recently changed. My gestor said they were adding N26 to the collaborators’ list, but at the time when I signed up, it still wasn’t in effect.”
“Bbva for taxes and social security, and Wise for keeping the money and income.”

Conclusion
For digital nomads in Spain, particularly those with a Digital Nomad Visa and working as autonomos, managing finances can be complex.
The consensus among group members is to use a Spanish bank like BBVA for tax payments and governmental interactions due to the complications associated with using Wise or Revolut for these purposes.
Wise and Revolut are popular for transferring and managing day-to-day expenses, but when it comes to formal tax responsibilities, a local bank account seems to be the preferred and safer choice.
