Hooray! We ended up just paying the appointment fee for our son along with our visa fees. There was no drama at all.
The guard told us to take a seat in the small waiting room, which has several rows of folding chairs. No one gave us a list of docs. It was not busy. We were called to the window at 9:20. The clerk was very professional and courteous.

Along with the visa fees and our son’s appointment fee, we also opted to pay $42 each for the flex-time pickup, which is from 8am to 2pm and 3pm to 4pm, rather than just 3pm to 4pm. The clerk asked us to go back to our seats and wait to be called for photos. We had brought the extra photos required, but they were returned to us.
By 9:42 I was called for a quick photo, and then given a copy of the first page of my visado application along with the all-important receipt that lets you check the status of your application.
