“Your insurance needs to be effective for your application, as you need to prove you have paid for one year in advance. I am a health insurance agent.”

“If you hire Adeslas, you would pay now in order to obtain the certificate needed for the Non Lucrative Spain Visa appointment but you will be able to make the policy start up to 3 months in the future if needed. And if you decide to travel to Spain after, you can again extend the start date in the future again, up to 3 more months. You can hire Adeslas fully online here

“I bought a one-year Health Policy with Sanitas for myself and my wife to begin April 1st for submission of Visa paperwork for my Non Lucrative Spain Visa application in the last week of January or the first week of February. My intention was to arrive in Spain full-time on April 1st (3 years ago). I am a US Citizen. I applied at the Spain Consulate in Guayaquil, Ecuador.”

“In my experience at the San Francisco consulate, we were required to have an active health insurance policy at the time of our visa application.”

“If you don’t have health insurance in place before your appointment they will reject your application because it’s a requirement”

“My application for my original Non Lucrative Spain Visa included a health policy with proof of coverage that started approximately 2 months in the future.
My Visa application was approved two weeks later – Mid-February 2020 – approximately six weeks before my coverage started.”

“When we bought insurance for our visa application, we got insurance in January that was effective for May through April. We did pay in full in January for a policy that started in May.”

“We had to have ours effective as of the date we applied… which was December and we weren’t coming to Valencia until March… so, in Miami, that was true.”

“Yes, i did DKV before my appointment too”

“I don’t know anything about the requirement of your visa (I guess that is the first think you need to find out) but with Mapfre you can get an insurance policy that starts in the future.”

Conclusion

In conclusion, the consensus among the experiences of Spainguru’s Facebook group members, suggests that having an active Spanish health insurance policy is essential when applying for the Non Lucrative Spain Visa. Many applicants secured their policies well in advance, even if their intended move date was months away. Some were even required to provide proof of a year’s payment upfront. Regardless of individual consulate variations, it’s evident that proactive insurance coverage is a critical component of a successful Non Lucrative Spain Visa application. Potential applicants should be guided by these shared experiences and prioritize securing a Spanish health insurance that aligns with visa requirements.
