Can I extend my Schengen Visa in Spain while waiting for a Spain Digital Nomad Visa?

Last Updated on March 18, 2026 by Bruno Bianchi

Question

I have arrived in Spain with a Schengen Visa and applied for a Spain Digital Nomad visa here. The process can take up to 3-4 weeks. During this time, my Schengen visa will expire. Is it possible to get any document from the Spanish government that can extend my stay here until I receive the application result?

These are the answers of some Facebook group members:

”Not required. You’re allowed to stay legally while waiting for your visa to be processed”

”You should have a “justificación” from your visa submission, proving that you’ve submitted it. That along with a denial letter will answer their questions”

In conclusion, according to Spainguru Facebook group members, You can stay in Spain while waiting for your Digital Nomad Residency Permit application to be processed, even if your Schengen Visa expires, as long as you have proof of your application submission. In case of questions, a denial letter can be used as supporting documentation. It’s recommended to seek official guidance for your specific circumstances.
