“Looking at health insurance options in Spain… do we need the prescription meds add-on? Are the basic meds pricey? In the states on corp insurance, we currently pay $0-10.”

“I pay less for meds at full price at a pharmacy in Spain than cost of co-pays in US and I had excellent coverage in US. This may not be the case, however, if you take specialty meds or something unusual. If the med is available in a generic form, it will likely be quite inexpensive in Spain.”

“I pay less than 10 euros, maybe less than 5 euros for each med—all generic. My one specialty med is fully covered by public system.”

“Meds are significantly less expensive in Spain that most of the ones we’ve needed end up being less expensive than the co-pay in the states.”

“If you don’t get private health insurance (if you’re not required to have it), can you just pay out of pocket for basic care? Private insurance gets quite pricey but I’m not sure how much of the extras are necessary.”

“Yes. But you’ll likely be required to have it. It’s a condition of being granted a visa.”
