Question

If you transfer money using WISE, from your US bank account to your Spanish bank account, I know there are the Wise fees, HOWEVER, do Spanish banks also charge something or deduct something to receive it?

“I know Wise charges a pretty small fee to transfer into a bank account but I don’t think most Spanish banks charge you to receive money from Wise – as far as I know they have their own account in the EU (Belgium I think) which is what they use to do the transfer so it avoids fees.”

“I’ve transferred through Wise with 3 different Spanish banks. Never any additional charges.”

“I avoid Wise fees with the initial transfer by initiating the transfer from my bank and not through Wise. If you have a multi-currency Wise account and go into the USD account you can find a routing number and account number. I used those to set up a payee in my US bank and then transfer from there. Then I convert to Euros and either use it with my Wise debit card or transfer it to my Spanish bank account”

“There’s usually no charge from your Spanish bank because Wise uses an intermediary account to make the transfer. Nearly all Spanish bank accounts come with free transfers from within the EU. And since your Wise transfer will come from an EU account, receiving it is free.”

“Mine did. (CaixaBank). The transfer was from the USA, though. They have charged from other banks in Spain, too.”
