Question
I want to ask you if a salary of 3000 eur before tax is ok to living in Spain (Barcelona), or if it’s too tight? I read a normal life, nothing to the extremes, got a wife and 3 years daughter

These are the answers of some Facebook group members:
“if you chose to live in the city half of your salary will go toward rent, then your daughter school depends if you want her in a public or semi privte ( around 200Euros ) or an english private one (starts from 500 Euro) then food and living expenses with no super super extras 100 euros per week, after a while you will know how to get around and make budget meet”
“All depends on your lifestyle, I lived in Barcelona with my wife and 2 children, I got 2500 euros before Tax , we were good and guess what , I saved. Now I’ll tell you that you have to figure out your net salary, ask gestor or abogado, with child you pay less IPRF. If you haven’t a car and license to drive in Spain, I would recommend you avoid the idea to be outside Barcelona, it’s not very good connected like Madrid, and Barcelona outside is not very cheap neither , you can get nice apartment on the city with 800 euros/ month”
“We live on this with family of 5. Rent of 1000 euros a month in Gracia neighbourhood, children in public school. We live well, not luxury but it is enough.”
“In Barcelona you will pay between 1000 and 1200 euro rent (utilities and communal costs not included). So count that half of your salary will go up on housing. Forget about driving a car. You will be left with a daily spending budget of about 30 euro/day (after taxes). It’s doable. Count on at least 6 months before you will find a place to live, and this alone will be a full time job for one of you.”
“It’s a good income and above the Spanish average but housing costs are high in the city and there has been a recent peak in inflation so prices on almost all goods and services have increased dramatically compared to last year (gas prices are almost double and food costs are 10 to 30% higher on average). But if some make do with much less then so can you. Just shop around to make sure you always get the best deal possible. Be it when renting a house, buying furniture, clothes, picking a school, etc.”
