Answers
These are the answers of some Facebook group members:
“From experience a British woman baby don’t really come into things till it’s 1 year old yes if you want to bring back to England you need to go to consulate and they will give you a 24 hour pass to take baby back to England. It will not be Spanish Only if you marry father and he register”
“When I had my babies here in Spain, when we registered them for their libro de familia, we got asked , if we wanted to put British or duel, we was both British parents. If you want duel, or Spanish nationality , you have to put both surnames of parents. If you choose British it’s just the one surname”
“Registro civil to get Spanish citizenship. My kids have both, and so am I. If you live in Spain you can get DNI (only residents can apply for DNI at the police station, once you have the citizenship), if you live abroad only Spanish passport”
“They can have both. Register the birth with British consulate/embassy, and get a Spanish DNI. When mine were born we had to go to registro civil to register the birth and get birth certificates then to police station to get DNI.”
“With a Spanish father there will be no problem. Just register them with the Spanish Civil registry office for your area. You can then get DNIs for them. With the birth certificate you can then also have the birth registers in the UK because you are English. Advice about the exact procedure to register the birth of a child to a British mother living outside the UK should be easy to get from www.gov.uk or any UK Consulate.”
