Do streaming services with US-based accounts operate on smart TVs in Spain?

Question

Do streaming services work on smart TVs in Spain for US-based accounts? Any special equipment/set-up changes we need to make that happen if we already have a HULU or Netflix account?

Answers

These are the answers of some Facebook group members:

“I have been using a Roku device for years, traveling in Asia as well as Europe, Mexico and others. I can say that this has worked without exception. However, you will not necessarily get the same shows as you do in the US. You will get what is licensed for the country you are in. I am not sure if this is different from if you had a local account, though. Enjoy!”

“If your tv is android based then you can download a vpn app. If not, then an Amazon tv fire stick is a cheap way to use a vpn app on your tv.”

“You’ll need a VPN for Hulu (doesn’t stream outside of the US), but Netflix, Amazon Prime, HBOMax and Disney+ all work w/o VPN. You’ll just have different content as others have mentioned but I believe all – or at least most – original / proprietary content (e.g., Marvel and Star Wars on Disney+) will be available. (We use our Apple TV)”

“They all work, but the content tends to be different. Sometimes for the better, sometimes things are missing. I personally like a lot of the different content. Try it. If not, use a VPN

“I have 2 routers in my house, one with a VPN config of Houston (where I used to live) and other stock internet, i just switch wifi when I want anything only US based, but it mostly is about programs availability and few other processes, but VPN slow down speeds a lot, why I only use it when I need it”
