Which passport should I use to enter Spain if I hold dual citizenship?

Question

If traveling to Spain as a dual national without a return ticket – should I exit Australia with my Australian Passport and enter Spain with my Spanish passport? Will it be an issue that I don’t have a return ticket?

Answers

These are the answers of some Facebook group members:

“Aus in & out & Spanish in & out. If you travel out of EU maybe carry 1 passport. I was held twice by police in Turkey & Belarus asking questions why I have 2 passports. Maybe only spies have them there”

“In and out of Australia on Australian passport. In and out of Spain on Spanish passport”

“I was told once when travelling home from Europe that I had to use my Aus passport when going home and use the same one the whole journey (I’d switched from my Irish one to my Aussie one in Thailand without thinking). I would guess it’s the same for Spain.”

“I have both passports, Spanish and Austrialian. I have been living on Spain for 21 years and have gone back to Melbourne 3 times. I have always left Spain on my Spanish pasaport and entered Australia on muy Australian pasaport. Has never been a problem. As a visa IS needed for Australia, use your Australian passport when you make the Booking and let them know you have a Spanish pasaport. I have always done it this way. Then show my Spanish passport at the checkin and my aussie when I get to Australia.”
