“Citizen, I doubt. Permanent Resident, in 5 years you can get permanent residency”

“It takes 10 years to qualify for Spanish citizenship, unless you’re a citizen of one of the former colonies (Ibero-American countries, Phillipines, etc), in which case it’s 2 years. You can get (or switch to) a 3-year permit, renewable for another 2 years. After those 5 years, you can apply for permanent residency, which is renewable every 5 years, but after 10 years of legal residency, you can apply for citizenship.”

“(Professional Answer) The Spanish Digital Nomad Visa is a resident visa, it only offers the unique incentive that you can choose to be taxed as a non-fiscal resident. I have emailed the UGE today, to have them clear up some doubts I have, amongst which the access to permanent residency, irrespective of the tax regime you choose as Digital Nomad.”
