Question
I have dual nationality (EU/UK) and obtained my NIE / EU Certificate by registering with my EU Passport last September. This likely disqualifies me from the Digital Nomad Visa application in Spain, so I am thinking of exchanging my EU Certificate for a TIE and using my UK passport going forward.
Does anyone have experience with the process of switching from an EU certificate to a TIE and are there any strong opinions/concerns that this switch may still prevent me from successfully applying for Spanish Digital Nomad Visa?
Answers
These are the answers of some Facebook group members:
”You are technically ineligible. You’d have to apply for a DNV to get the tie not the other way around”
”You can apply for DNV from Spain but not as an EU passport holder”
”You’d have to get your NIE NUMBER reassigned to your UK passport which is nothing to do with a TIE card. But the system would show that you are still one and the same person”
”You could go for an EOR (An employer of record is an entity that legally employs workers on behalf of another business. An EOR takes full responsibility for all aspects of employment including compliance, payroll, taxes, and benefits.) Some of them take care of relocation procedures. But DNV is not for your case as an EU pass holder. They might also be able to help you get a cita previa for the TIE since getting one can be a struggle depending on where you go”
In conclusion, according to Spainguru Facebook group members, it seems that switching from an EU certificate to a TIE may make you ineligible for applying for DNV. The process involves reassigning your NIE number to a non EU passport, which is separate from obtaining a TIE card. However, there may be options such as seeking assistance from an EOR (Employer of Record) for relocation procedures and obtaining a cita previa for the TIE. It is advisable to consult with relevant authorities or immigration experts for accurate and up-to-date information regarding your specific situation.
