Are marriage and birth certificates required for renewing the non lucrative Spain visa?

Last Updated on March 18, 2026 by Bruno Bianchi

Question

Starting to get ready to renew our family’s non lucrative Spain visa (years 2 and 3) for myself, my husband and our child. From the Migraciones page, I don’t see showing marriage certificates and birth certificates to prove family relationships. Is this not required for renewal, or am I missing something?

These are the answers of some Facebook group members:

”In Madrid, I didn’t supply a marriage certificate and they didn’t ask for it and they approved us. Renewal is a lot simpler”

”Not required for non lucrative Spain visa renewals”

”They are not required for non lucrative Spain visa renewal”

In conclusion, Spainguru Facebook group members, marriage certificates and birth certificates are not required for renewal of the non lucrative Spain visa, at least in Madrid. Renewal is said to be a simpler process and these documents are not needed.
