Question about the Spain Digital nomad visa
I tried to search for it but needed help finding the correct answer.
After being approved for Spain Digital nomad visa, are we going to be eligible to use the national health system? If so, what makes us eligible? NIE? TIE?
I know that we have to have private insurance to apply, but I am still interested in learning about this subject.

These are the answers of some Facebook group members:
”If you register as autonomo and pay SS in Spain you don’t need health insurance. But if you don’t pay Social Security, you will need compliant private health insurance”
”Yes, If you make payments to Social Security”
”Which country are you from? If you live in the UK, you can apply for S1, which you can then register in Spain to have access to the health service – although, there is a thread on here that someone in the UK have been denied the S1. My application is in progress”
In conclusion, according to Spainguru Facebook group members, after obtaining the Spain digital nomad visa approval in Spain, eligibility to use the national health system largely hinges on contributions to Spain’s Social Security (SS). If you register as an “autonomo” (self-employed) and make regular payments to SS, you can access the health system without needing additional private health insurance. For UK residents, there’s an option to apply for an S1 form which, if approved, allows access to the Spanish health service. However, there have been instances of UK residents being denied the S1, so it’s essential to be aware of potential roadblocks in that process.
