Do I need to buy health insurance in Spain if I already have coverage in the USA?

Question

I am coming from USA. I have health insurance that will cover me there. Will I be required to purchase health insurance from Spain?

These are the answers of some Facebook group members:

”I doubt it. Copays and deductibles are frowned upon. Then you’d need a Spanish translation of some parts of the policy. It’s called “Condiciones Particulares de Seguro”. Spanish health coverage is almost certainly a lot cheaper. Still, I’m not 100% sure. More advice needed, probably”

”If you are coming to live here your US health insurance is for services and treatment in the US only, so yes you will need Spanish health insurance”

”For an NLV you need a year of private Spanish health insurance paid up front”

”Yes, you need to do it in order to apply for the visa”
