Spain Non Lucrative Visa: How Soon Do You Need to Be in Spain After Receiving Your NLV?

Question

Please can someone advise how soon I have to be in Spain after receiving my Spain Non Lucrative Visa? Thank you.

Answers

These are the answers of Spainguru’s Facebook group members:

“Spain Non Lucrative Visa is valid for 90 days, the date will be on it. So within that time, but once there you only have 30 days to apply for your TIE, so I would go as soon as you can.”

“Is the 90 days validation decided by the consulate and from the day I pick up the visa at the Spanish Consulate?” – “When you apply you are asked to put an entry date to Spain on the application form, this is the date they use.”

“When I had my appointment, I did not know this, so I just said mid-August but nothing definite. I’ve just had a message saying to go & take my passport to Consulate within one month.

This I will do but wanted to know if the Consulate will give me three months from collecting the visa as I have a home sale to deal with & it may not be completed by mid-August. Thanks.”

“Then the date will be printed on the visa in your passport, so you won’t know until you collect it.”

“Actually, you may be able to check online. On your receipt should be a barcode reference number. Go to Sutramiteconsular.maec.es, choose visa, and enter your details. At the top right is Consultar Datos, this shows a pdf doc, look at the bottom for the dates they have entered.”

Conclusion

Once you receive your Spain Non Lucrative Visa (NLV), you have 90 days to enter Spain, starting from the date specified on your visa.

This date is usually based on the entry date you provided on your application form. Upon arrival in Spain, you have 30 days to apply for your TIE (Tarjeta de Identidad de Extranjero).

It’s recommended to travel to Spain as soon as possible within this 90-day window to ensure a smooth transition and timely application for your TIE.

If you’re unsure about the dates, you can check the status online using your receipt’s barcode reference number on the official Spanish consulate website.
