“It is easier to find friends among people who have the same hobbies.”

“Very difficult to make true lasting friendships when you are older, but it can be done.”

“I have also noticed that for men it’s easier to make friends from the same country, so maybe there is a group for people from your country and you could check there if anyone is interested to do some outdoor activities.”

“Sports, then after sports beers.”

“Don’t know who told you it’s easy for women to make friends. Making friends when we’re no longer in controlled environments like university is difficult for everyone and more so if you don’t have kids. Find some activities you like and do those. Try to connect with other people doing those activities.”

“It is hard to make a friend. There can be drinking buddies, gym buddies, tennis buddies … But a true friend, that is something I can say I am fortunated to have, and that is very hard to make. A true friend is like a dog, it will always be there for you no matter what, and it will never leave you.”

Conclusion

Making friends in Spain can be challenging, particularly for men in their 30s, according to the shared experiences in the Facebook group. Common advice centers around engaging in sports, frequenting local pubs, and participating in group hobbies.

Many suggest that establishing friendships is akin to dating—it requires effort, exposure, and a willingness to step into social settings. The consensus is that shared activities provide the best opportunities for meaningful interactions that can evolve into friendships.
