Spain Non Lucrative Visa: Getting an Updated Marriage Certificate from Cyprus

Question

Is there anyone here who has experience applying for an up-to-date marriage certificate if you got married in Cyprus for the Spain Non Lucrative Visa application? (We live in the UK with British passports.)

I have a feeling this is going to be quite a challenge! We do have the original documents, but I think it’s bizarre that we need to provide one within the last three months.

“We got married in Cyprus and managed to get a solicitor there to help us obtain the certificate and get it apostilled. I would definitely recommend them.

“We got ours back in a week, so it was a quick process. Hope this helps!”

“We got married in Cyprus too. We worked with an official in Cyprus who managed the certificate for us. She had a friend courier it by DHL for us. I think it cost around €60-100. I was nervous about it being a scam, but it all worked out perfectly.”

“Unfortunately, getting married abroad does cause complications. We got married in Jamaica, and we couldn’t get the updated certificate back within the three-month period required, so we ended up applying separately for our visas.”

“I messaged the local council directly in Pegeia, Cyprus, and they were able to guide me from there. It depends on where you got married in Cyprus, so I’d suggest contacting local authorities in your area.”

Conclusion

Obtaining an updated marriage certificate from Cyprus can indeed present challenges for those applying for the Spain Non Lucrative Visa.

Expats have found success by working with local solicitors in Cyprus, contacting local councils directly, or relying on local contacts who can arrange courier services for expedited delivery.

Planning ahead and connecting with reliable sources in Cyprus can make the process smoother, ensuring applicants receive their updated documents within the required three-month period.
