Completed our Spain Non Lucrative Visa application appointments today at the Los Angeles. I will not repeat what another group member posted on Nov 23 2025 (their notes were extremely helpful). Here are the exceptions to their experience and some confirmations:
- The Los Angeles consulate has at least two rooms. The first room handles non-lucrative visas. It wasn’t clearly labeled, so I initially ended up in a second room. Ensure you are in the correct room.
- No one asks your purpose until they finish with the current appointment. Luckily, we arrived early and resolved the room confusion.
- My spouse’s appointment was at 10:30 am, and mine was at 12:30 pm. We were allowed to do the process together.
- The older lady who assisted us was extremely friendly, and the entire process was conducted in English.
- They requested proof of payment for health insurance.
- They required Letters of Intent, which is not mentioned on the consulate’s website.
- Walk-in appointments are not accepted, as confirmed by a posted sign.
- Your paperwork is processed in the province you plan to live in. They asked for our intended arrival date and province destination.
Questions and Answers
Q1: Is there a template for the Letter of Intent? Should I just be creative?
A1: Be creative. They will read it and comment on it in front of you. Here’s a template of Letter of Intent
Q2: What was the most frustrating part of the process?
A2: Getting an appointment is challenging. Appointments are released sporadically. Some group members suggest checking at odd hours, including the middle of the night.
