Spain Non Lucrative Visa: Email mix-up resolved at Miami Consulate (March 2025)

first hand experience community answers

Got our Spain Non Lucrative Visa approved today!!! Picking up tomorrow Miami BLS. Applied Dec 16th 2024. After a mix-up with emails, we contacted the consulate directly (not BLS) on Friday, Feb 28th 2025 and asked for a status update via email.

They emailed back an hour later, saying they had tried to contact us asking for more paperwork but had spelled our email wrong, so we had never received it. We sent in the paperwork they requested and within a day they approved the visas—March 5th 2025.

If you never received a text or email confirming that your application has been received/processing, I urge you to email the consulate (not BLS) and ask for a status update! We would have never known had we not reached out, and BLS was no help as we called 6–7 times asking for information.

Thank you to everyone in the group for your help and for answering all the questions. If anyone has any questions, I’d be happy to answer to the best of my ability. See you all in Spain!

Questions and Answers

Q1: Is there a certain order the paperwork needs to be in when submitting at the Miami BLS office?
A1: “We put everything in the order on the BLS website, but it didn’t seem to matter because they went through everything at the counter anyway.”

Q2: Regarding submitting your last tax return, what exactly do we need to include? Just the first two pages of the 1040, or all forms and schedules?
A2: This question was asked but not directly answered in the thread. However, it is generally advisable to include the full 1040 with any relevant schedules like Schedule B, if they provide evidence of income or financial status.

Q3: Can you provide the contact details for BLS?
A3: “The BLS you can call, but they don’t have any information really to give you because the consulate outsources. If you want any answers about your application, email the consulate at cog.miami.vis@maec.es

Conclusion

This firsthand experience highlights the importance of actively following up with the Spanish Consulate when applying for the Spain Non Lucrative Visa through the Miami BLS office

Due to a simple email typo, the consulate had attempted to request additional paperwork but failed to reach the applicant—only resolved after direct email communication.

The process proved that relying solely on BLS for updates may not be sufficient. Applicants are encouraged to email the consulate directly if they haven’t received confirmation of processing.

Other helpful tips include loosely following the document order on the BLS site and staying prepared for potential delays or miscommunication. Consistent communication, patience, and persistence can make a major difference in the outcome.
