For context, we are taxed on an assessed value of $119,750.00, but I believe the insurance is covering around $480k- which is what it would cost to rebuild if we experienced a total loss.

Conclusion: Homeowners Insurance in Spain vs the US

According to members of the Spainguru Facebook group, homeowners insurance in Spain is significantly cheaper than in the United States.

While US members report paying thousands of dollars annually—up to $4,800 for homeowners and over $5,000 for auto insurance—many in Spain report homeowners insurance ranging from €160 to €700 annually, depending on property size and location.

Property taxes in Spain also tend to be low, often under €500 per year, compared to $2,000 or much higher in the US. Auto insurance with full coverage ranges from €370 to €1,000 per year, often including breakdown cover.

Though cost comparisons should always consider location, coverage details, and lifestyle differences, this discussion makes clear that Spain offers far more affordable insurance options, especially for those relocating from high-premium US states like Florida or California.
