“Yes, you are still bound by 90 days in 180 in the rest of Schengen. Will it be monitored? No idea.”

“The Digital Nomad Visa Spain or TIE if you have that only allows you to remain longer in Spain. It does not allow you any more time in the Schengen area. You still have the same time limits (depending on your passport) for other countries within the Schengen area.”

“If you travel within the Schengen territory they do not stamp your passport.”

“We were talking about that exact subject today! My understanding is that you aren’t supposed to travel, but they don’t check passports so how would they know? Maybe be careful about your bank transactions, if they can see you’ve made lots in a different country than where you’re supposed to be!”

Conclusion

Holding a Digital Nomad Visa Spain (DNV) for Spain allows the visa holder extended residency within Spain but does not extend the standard Schengen area restriction of 90 days within any 180-day period for other Schengen countries.

This common misunderstanding arises perhaps due to the lack of passport controls within the Schengen zone, making monitoring difficult. However, adherence to the 90/180 rule is required legally, regardless of how sporadically it may be enforced.
