“Yes, we did. We came a week before the start of the non lucrative Spain visa but was advised to ensure that we got our passports stamped upon arrival. When you go through passport control ask them to stamp the date on your passport. We then had to show this when we went for the TIE appointment in Spain.”

“We did. We came and found the apartment that we are still in 8 years later (and have just signed a 15 year extension). We did go back to pick up our visa and our dog in between. But all do able. This is a way unofficial opinion but I don’t think anyone will care about the date as long as you have that visa stamped in your passport.”

“I believe it’s okay to arrive up to 15 days ahead. Technically you can arrive any time before as long as it’s not more than 90 days and be here as a tourist. Remember that you’re allowed a total of 90 tourist days out of 180 in Schengen countries, so if you travel within the Schengen zone, subtract the number of days you’re here ahead of your visa start date from 90 days to know how many days you can travel.”

In conclusion, based on the responses from experienced members of Spainguru’s Facebook group, it is generally possible to arrive in Spain on a tourist visa before the start date of your non lucrative Spain visa. However, there are some important considerations to keep in mind. It’s advisable to ensure that your passport is stamped upon arrival and to carry the necessary documentation to prove your intended stay. Additionally, be aware of the Schengen visa rules, which limit the total number of tourist days within a 180-day period. Ultimately, while it may be permissible, it’s essential to plan your arrival and stay carefully to avoid any issues or overstay complications.
