Question
Anyone ever tried to change the date of a consulate appointment because of an important scheduled event? Are they ever flexible?
Answers
These are the answers of Spainguru’s Facebook group members:
“They’re flexible in the sense that if there’s an opening, they’ll let you have it. They’re not usually flexible in the sense that if there isn’t an opening, they’re almost certainly NOT going to “just work you in” or anything like that. It’s the Spanish bureaucracy. Flexibility is not something they value, as a general rule.”
“We did in Miami but it was for picking up our visas. they had emailed us saying to come on the 26th and we had a medical appointment. I asked if we could come another day and they gave us the next day. But this is prob different than the consulates where you need an initial appointment”
“Not an issue, they issue next available appointment when you apply for it. But generally I would think as you requested consular visit it would be more important, than say visiting a wedding, doctors routine visit or even inpatient care.”
“Well, at SF consulate in 2019 I waited five months for an appointment. There’s nothing short of being in a coma that would have stopped me from going, because I really didn’t want to wait another five months.”
“Depends on the consulate. We cancelled and rescheduled our NLV consulate appointment 3 times via LA. You have to cancel your original and select the next available. There are usually appointments available each day around noon and for appointments that are within 30 days that someone cancelled, they will show up just after midnight. At least that is what I’ve found for LA consulate. In addition, you can use a private service to get an appointment at the consulate, if you prefer to avoid the hassle.”
In conclusion, the flexibility of changing a consulate appointment appears to vary depending on the specific consulate and the nature of the appointment. Some members of Spainguru’s Facebook group have reported varying degrees of flexibility, with certain consulates accommodating changes when there are openings, while others have experienced longer wait times and limited rescheduling options. It’s important to consider the consulate’s policies and availability when requesting appointment changes. While some individuals have successfully adjusted their appointments for important events, the overall level of flexibility may be influenced by the consulate’s workload and procedures. Applicants should plan ahead and be prepared for potential challenges when seeking to change their consulate appointments.
