Is it possible for a non-resident to enroll a 7-month-old baby in daycare in Spain?

Last Updated on March 18, 2026 by Bruno Bianchi

Question

Hi, is it possible to get your baby into daycare in Spain without being a resident?

We’re waiting for my husband’s work to change his contract to a Spanish one so we can apply for residency (from the Netherlands) but would like our son (7 months old) to go to a daycare for one afternoon or full day a week so he can already get in contact with the Spanish language and other babies. Does anyone know how this works?

These are the answers of some Facebook group members:

“Yes it is in private daycare. Goodluck!”

“They might ask you for your child to be in the padron, but if it’s private, probably not.”

“Yes, I believe it’s still possible with most private guarderias. At least it was when we needed it 3 years!”
