Question
I’m about to go through the LA Consulate, and I understand that I need to get a Spanish health insurance for 1 year, but what happens if my non lucrative Spain visa application is rejected? The Spanish health insurance is not cheap, are you allowed to cancel it if not approved? Or how have you dealt with that?
Answers
These are the answers of some Facebook group members:
“The company I’m using stated that cancellation is allowed only if the reason for the denial is because the health insurance.”
“Do you have any reason to think you might be denied? If you have all requirements…. you’re good to go. If you gather and submit everything that is required just as specified, it’ll be approved!”
“We clarified with the insurance agent and they said to show them the denial and then I could cancel it”
“Adeslas expat insurance has a free cancellation if visa denied clause. Get it from Spainguru.es to access discounted prices.”
“I would suggest using an agent to ensure that doesn’t happen.”
“Sanitas confirmed I could cancel and receive a refund for unused months if I was denied. This was a couple years ago.”
“Adeslas insurance will cancel the coverage if you are not approved.”
In conclusion, if you are applying for a Spanish Non Lucrative Visa and need to purchase a compliant spanish health insurance, it is important to check that the insurance complies with the non lucrative Spain visa requirements (Such as No copay, no waiting times, full coverage) and to clarify with the insurance company whether cancellation is allowed if the visa is not approved. Some companies like Adeslas allow cancellation if the Spanish NLV application is rejected. Using an agent can also be helpful in ensuring a smooth communication process, however there are self-service platforms that also can answer any questions or doubts in a prompt manner.
