Is three years of tax returns required by the Miami consulate for a Spain Non lucrative visa application?

Question about the Spain Non lucrative visa

My husband and I are getting ready to submit our paperwork and apply out of the Miami consulate and I have a question about the Spain Non lucrative visa application. We are providing a statement of sufficient funds from the bank, 12 months of bank statements and a notarized letter agreeing not to work while in Spain (self employed).

I don’t see tax returns listed anywhere as a requirement for Miami but I have heard people mention three years of tax returns as well. Is this a requirement? Or something we don’t include unless it’s asked for later.

Answers

These are the answers of some Facebook group members:

”Not shown for Houston either. I think every consulate is different”

”Miami consulate sent us an email requesting 2022 tax returns and we sent a copy overnight via USPS”

”We provided Miami our 2022 tax return, 12 months statements from our bank accounts and 12 months statements from our investment accounts. At our application review we were asked for more financial info (even though our bank accounts showed more than sufficient funds) Specifically; “In order to consider the investment accounts as valid, it is necessary that you provide an original certificate from the financial institution that indicates the freely available amount without contingencies”

”Other things to check Medical certificate dated less than 90 days from time of application review. Insurance valid a full year from application, (ours was declined because the insurance was purchased too early. We needed to purchase a NEW one year policy). Marriage Certificate with state apostille and FBI check with federal apostille need to be 6 months or less for Miami. (Some websites show 90 days, but Miami extends it)”

Conclusion

In conclusion, according to Spainguru Facebook group members, while tax returns aren’t consistently required across all Spanish consulates, the Miami consulate has requested the 2022 tax return from some applicants during year 2023. In addition to bank statements and other supporting documents, the Miami consulate may ask for additional financial information, even if the provided bank accounts show sufficient funds. Applicants are also advised to ensure the validity period of documents like medical certificates and health insurance policies, as there are specific timelines to adhere to for the Miami consulate.
