Question
When does the countdown for the arrival period in Spain start after picking up a non lucrative Spain visa, and can you enter earlier than the date specified on the visa?
Answers
These are the answers of some Facebook group members:
”The clock starts when your passport is stamped with the date you entered Spain…you can go before the start date on your visa if you have any of your 90 days available…but to avoid confusion I would go on the dates on your visa”
”When we applied we said that our moving date would be November 1st st even though the visa was ready late September, we had from November 1st to February 1st to move. The dates are stamped on the visa so wouldn’t recommend to move before the effective date”
”There was a date range on our visa. They knew our medical insurance began on Sept 1 and we said we hoped to travel mid Sept. The range on our visa said we could enter Spain any time from Sept 1- Dec. 14. We travelled on Sept 26 and are here now starting our new life”
”I’m gonna say your date of entry (when you get stamped into Schengen) but I’m not exactly sure if this is the exact question you are asking but it is the answer probaly”
”Date on visa. Has dated from and too on it”
”Get there asap ( first month) once you pick it up then register for the TIE as soon as possible”
”They asked us what date we wanted the visa stamped from, we’re booked on the ferry 20th October so that’s the date they put, you have 90 days to enter Spain from date visa is stamped”
”I think as long as it’s all done within the 3 months of first entering Spain , then padron appoint, then tie , I’m due my tie 17 October now (says part one) so not sure what the next process is after 17 October ! But according to another post 6 weeks from date of tie to get your card . So for me that’s still within the 3 month”
”Mine had a window which is valid from Mid September until Mid December. (Although it was issued August 1st)”

In conclusion, according to Spainguru Facebook group members, countdown for the arrival period in Spain begins on the visa’s stamped date or within a specified date range. While some flexibility exists in choosing this date, it is generally advised to adhere to the visa dates to avoid confusion.
The consensus is that entry should occur within the validity period mentioned on the visa, and prompt initiation of administrative processes, such as registering for the TIE, is recommended. It’s crucial to complete these procedures within the initial 90-day window granted by the visa.
