Question
Spain non lucrative visa: What if we want to spend our first year travelling about a bit to see which area we like and don’t want to get a longterm rental or buy property? What do we do re. Tie/padron? Is this possible?
Answers
These are the answers of some Facebook group members:
”It’s what my wife and I did. You have to find a very nice landlord who helps a lot. Probably you will need to get a six-month contract at the beginning and just make it clear you will not stay that long. Once you apply for Padron which takes a few days and then get an appointment, apply and then receive TIE which might take anywhere longer than a month you are free.

Start the Moving to Spain Hub →Ours was super painless application but still waiting for cards 1 month later. Don’t expect that you can move around straight away unless you don’t mind doubling back to pick stuff up. Not easy but doable.
Just be prepared to contact a lot of landlords directly. Definitely easier if you arrive over winter or later in the year. Option 2 know someone who will write you are staying with them, do a contract for no money, and wherever that is, go there first. I have met several people who did that”
”If you are EU, Yes. If not, No”
In conclusion, Spainguru Facebook group members advise finding a flexible landlord for shorter leases while exploring Spain in the first year, that permits the applicant to obtain the Padrón and thereafter, the TIE. Overall, flexibility and open communication are key for obtaining a temporary residence while exploring Spain and comply with the Spain non lucrative visa requirements.
