Question
I live in the Málaga area. I’m going to be renewing my Spain Non Lucrative Visa, for the first time, in a few more months. I am confused about how to apply for the convenio especial.
I understand that it is available after one year, but how long does it take for approval? Can I get the convenio especial for my renewal years 2&3?
Answers
These are the answers of Spainguru’s Facebook group members:
“It’s advisable to renew your health insurance as convenio can take time to set up. This is what we did.”
“We were told to do this as well.”
“I’m in the same stage, just posted on the site. I’ll get an up-to-date quote for my healthcare now.”
Conclusion
The consensus among group members is that while awaiting the approval of the convenio especial, which can vary in duration, it is prudent to maintain or renew existing health insurance.
This precaution ensures continued coverage during the potentially extended approval period of the convenio especial.
Additionally, it appears beneficial to regularly update healthcare quotes to stay informed about the best available options during this transitional phase of NLV renewal.
