“Yes. You can enter early. I spoke to the Los Angeles Consulate about this personally. Save your flight itinerary and documents. I don’t think you would need them but just in case. However, she just said don’t overstay the 90 days prior.

Meaning don’t go 100 days ahead and think you can just stay and then show your visa and register. But she said at least as an American passport holder under the agreement you can enter before your date and go through the EU, or Spain.”

“Hi, you should enter Spain within the days on your Visa, otherwise you will have a problem when you go to do your TIE at the police station.

If you enter earlier, make sure you go out of the Schengen zone and back again after your start day on your Visa. If you need any help with your TIE and Padron once you get to Spain, do get in touch.”

Conclusion

Entering Spain before the official start date of a Non Lucrative Spain Visa is possible but comes with specific considerations.

As per the Los Angeles Consulate, you can enter Spain on a tourist basis if you hold an American passport and ensure you do not overstay the 90 days allowed under the tourist agreement.

It is crucial, however, to re-enter Spain or the Schengen zone after the official visa start date to avoid issues when registering for the TIE (Tarjeta de Identidad de Extranjero) and Padron at the local police station.
