Question
“I have pareja de hecho in Andalucia, but may have to move to Madrid with my partner. If I empadronar in Madrid, what happens to my pareja de hecho/residency? Do I have to start the whole process over again?”
Answers
These are the answers of Spainguru’s Facebook group members:
“No, not at all.”
“I did mine in Valladolid (Castilla y leon) and last year we moved to Malaga. You need to be listed at your new address with your partner and that is it.
I went to the extranjería office in both area many times to clarify it would not be an issue and both stated there was not as long as we changed our address and continued living together.
Moving will not be an issue when renewing your residency either, as I have just done it here in Malaga.”
“I did mine in Extremadura, but am now living and working in Madrid. I didn’t switch any paperwork that I’m living here, and registered at my partner’s parents address.
We still go back for summer, and I was able to change my centro de salud here as well (up to 8 months a year). Otherwise, you need to reapply all over again and the wait time in Madrid is crazy.”
“Pareja de hecho is only valid in the Province/Autonomous community where it is registered but the residence permit is valid nationwide. As far as you move with your partner and get empadronados together you shouldn’t have any problems.”
Conclusion
The pareja de hecho status in Spain can vary significantly between different autonomous communities, with each having its own specific regulations and requirements.
However, the residence status granted through pareja de hecho is nationally recognized and does not need to be revalidated solely because of a move within the country.
It’s crucial for individuals to ensure their empadronamiento (local registration) is updated and to verify specific community requirements if the pareja de hecho needs renewal or recognition in a new community.
