New York City Consulate – Spain Non Lucrative Visa approved in 8 business days! (School age child & working age parent)
May 9 2024- Emailed consulate & requested appointment.
May 10 2024- Consulate responded with their first available appointment for August 5.
August 5 2024- my child & I submitted our applications & documents, in person. Was asked why we wanted to live in Spain, & how we would support ourselves.
Then was handed a letter requesting; 1. An HR letter from my last job (I left my job & the US 4 years ago, so didn’t think I would need the letter) 2. A notarized statement indicating that I would not work in Spain or online, in Spanish (I included the statement in my notarized introduction letter, but was told it had to be on a separate letter), and 3. tax returns for the last 3 years with 9325 forms, translated by official interpreter (I told her I had them with me & she said to hand everything together when I return).
August 8 2024- I returned to the consulate with the additional 3 documents. They were taken & was told the application was fully submitted & to wait for a call.
August 14 2024- Received a call from the consulate indicating our visa applications were resolved & to pick them up with our passports, we picked them up the next day (between 12pm-1pm, as instructed).
Aside from the required documents indicated on the website, my application included:
Introduction letter in Spanish- indicating that we left the U.S. 4 years ago, and have been traveling the world ever since looking for a new home.
We detailed what was included in our supporting documents, indicating why we wanted to live in Spain (provided school enrollment letter for my child & dad’s notarized consent letter) & our financial situation (with 3 months of printed vanguard investment account statements, where most of our money is held & a balance certification letter, 3 months of stamped chase bank statements & printed 2024 Airbnb report of passive income from our short term rental in Dominican Republic- all in English).
3 years of tax returns which were all completed this April, with 9325 forms that were officially translated & the Spanish IRS 1040 forms completed by me, with the English versions attached.
We have dual citizenship, but used our U.S. passports.
Spainguru’s group was extremely helpful during this process & am very grateful for all your contributions. Best of luck to you all!
