These are the answers of some Facebook group members:

”No, they keep them all”

”They kept everything. Gave me the original marriage certificate and a few things back at my original appointment with the embassy”

”Edinburgh (UK) took all our photocopies and gave us the originals straight back Obviously, apart from the passport, you get that back in the post when you get your visa”

In conclusion, according to Spainguru Facebook group members, Spanish Consulates have different practices regarding document return when issuing visas, such as the non lucrative Spain visa. Some members said all documents were kept, while others received certain originals back during the appointment. Passports were returned by mail in one case. Contact the consulate or embassy to ask for their specific policies.
