How to Buy More Time for Your Spain Digital Nomad Visa Application

Last Updated on April 18, 2026 by Bruno Bianchi

Question

Has anyone gotten their Spain Digital Nomad Visa approved without everything apostilled OR have been able to wait until apostilled docs come in and then was approved?

We are expecting to hear back from our application in 2-3 weeks from now and our marriage cert and our son’s birth cert are stuck in apostille hell. I am worried they’ll only give us 10 days – 2 weeks to get the remaining documents back to them apostilled and not sure if we will be able to get them back that quickly. Will we get denied you think? Or can we ask for more time? Thanks in advance!

(Lawyer answer) “You can stretch the time out. If you receive a notification before you have the documents apostilled. Do NOT open the notification. You have 10 days to open it then 10 days to answer it. If after that 20 days you still don’t have them, request an extension and show receipts that the apostilles have been requested.”

Spain Digital Nomad Visa: Approval Process Without Fully Apostilled Documents

(Lawyer answer) “I have submitted applications without a specific document before and added them as a subsanación after I received them. You can wait to open the UGE notification(if they requested documents before you get the apostilles) and this will buy you some time.”

Conclusion

Navigating the Spain Digital Nomad Visa application process without all documents fully apostilled can be stressful but manageable.

Strategies such as delaying the opening of official notifications and requesting extensions with proof of document processing can provide additional time.

These approaches help manage the uncertainty of waiting for essential documents like marriage and birth certificates to be apostilled, allowing applicants to maintain compliance and potentially avoid denial due to incomplete documentation.
