Spain Digital Nomad Visa: Requirements for Self-Employed Freelancers with Dependents

Last Updated on April 18, 2026 by Bruno Bianchi

Question

I’m a British self-employed freelancer with children (dependants x2), and my partner is also self-employed. I’d like to explore the Spain Digital Nomad Visa process with a specialist who deals with freelancers, i.e., someone who understands paid work outside of a normal “remote job.”

Sometimes my contracts last a month or two, other times a few years—it really depends. My hope is that it’s based on the annual income coming in more than anything.

Answers

These are the answers of Spainguru’s Spain Digital Nomad Visa group members:

“The Spain Digital Nomad Visa isn’t just about income; it’s about stability and business-to-business contracts. Aside from bank statements and invoices, you have to submit the following:

  1. Contracts with businesses: You don’t need to submit all your contracts, but enough to cover the income requirement (currently 4,300 euros per month for your case). These contracts must be in place for at least three months before applying, and the visa will typically be granted based on the shortest contract duration. All documents need sworn translation.
  2. An authorization letter from each company stating that you can work remotely from Spain and your minimum expected earnings. This must be sworn translated.
  3. A certificate of good standing for each company you are using with an apostille and sworn translation, proving they have been in business for at least a year.

If you have long-term contracts that meet the income requirements, you can likely make it work. Otherwise, you may need to filter your job through a company, which must be carefully planned to avoid additional paperwork requests.”

These contracts must meet the income threshold, be active for at least three months, and be accompanied by authorization letters and good standing certificates from the companies involved

The visa is typically granted based on the duration of the shortest contract. Seeking professional assistance from experienced specialists is highly recommended to ensure a smooth application process.
