Spain non lucrative visa: Experiences with the San Francisco BLS process

Question

Has anyone had any luck with getting an NLV from San Francisco since BLS took over?

Answers

These are the answers of Spainguru’s Facebook group members:

“I have an appointment with SF BLS at the end of January 2025. Got it four weeks ago.”

“Did they schedule your appointment four weeks out? Was that the soonest you could get scheduled? Wondering how that works as we are planning on requesting an appointment in the spring and needing to coordinate a cross-country drive with a flight.”

“I would suggest getting an appointment as soon as possible. You could always cancel an appointment if not ready. (They give you a calendar. You may want to sign up for a few appointments!)”

“It was the first available at the time. Get into BLS and check the calendar for openings. I may just have been lucky. Boy, planning for travel et al. when trying to secure a visa is a potential stress headache!”

“We have a 1/23 appointment.”

“Thank you for the responses. I will post our progress. We appear to be in the first group.”

“First appointment that was made available with BLS is 21st January 2025. So no one has been through the process with them yet. Appointments for 21st Jan through end of Feb became available in late Nov. Not sure anyone knows yet how far in advance appointments will be made available in the future.”

“Thank you. We are scheduled for Jan 23 so we might be the guinea pig.”

“Oh yes! Please let us know how it goes. I am most interested in if they will require proof of accommodation in Spain. The BLS website says it is a requirement, but the consulate website does not. My appointment is 28th Feb, so anxiously waiting to hear from the first folks who have appointments. Good luck!!!”

Conclusion

According to Spainguru’s Facebook group members, the transition to BLS for Spain’s non lucrative visa applications in San Francisco is still unfolding, and many applicants are navigating it for the first time.

The general advice is to book appointments as soon as possible since availability can be unpredictable. Some members recommend booking multiple slots in case of delays. There is also uncertainty regarding specific requirements, such as proof of accommodation, as different sources provide conflicting information. Early applicants will likely provide valuable insight into the updated process.
