What is the process for doing your taxes in Spain?

Last Updated on March 18, 2026 by Bruno Bianchi

Question

How does it work doing your taxes in Spain? I have the white paper with the NIE , now policia nacional told me this is my permanent NIE but it doesn’t have a support numero (número de soporte) that i need to do my declaration for 2021.

Where can I get that number or can I only declare my taxes by personally going for an appointment?

These are the answers of some Facebook group members:

“You have to have residency- if you are a EU citizen you need that first. What they meant is that that NIE no u have on the white paper is permanent but is not your residency best you do it a.s.a.p.”

“You just need to go get the green nie, with the white paper you don’t have the suporto número”

“Are you an EU citizen? If so then with that white paper you go and get yourself a Certificado de ciudadano de la Unión Europea, it’s a green paper like a card. That’s it”
