“I thought about that but found it highly discouraged. We ended up searching all our local thrift shops for their largest hardside suitcases. We paid the overage on weight for 12 checked bags (there were three of us).”

“I brought 3 XL heavy duty boxes from Home Depot. I would totally do it again, but honestly, they barely survived! They were taped to hell and back when they came out of the conveyor.”

“I’ve been going back and forth between the states and Spain. Been getting work done on the house in Spain and getting solar installed. In the process I transported about 1500-1600 pounds of stuff on the aircraft with me. No shipping and transport issues because I am in control of it.”

“The last time I went back to the US I brought my golf push cart and some other miscellaneous stuff in a cardboard box back with me. You might want to look at upgrading to premium economy of business to get the extra bags included. Sometimes the extra cost of the ticket offsets the cost of extra bags in economy. Plus better seats! Check the airlines policy for size and weight. I booked all mine with one airline through to Malaga with no extra charges incurred. For large sports equipment, golf clubs, bikes, etc, you will usually pay a fee.”

“You can. Pack so they can be easily opened and retaped by TSA or customs. Use bubble wrap or clothes to protect items. If it exceeds weight or measurement limits, it can be expensive.”
