Simplified Renewal Process: Non Lucrative Spain Visa via Cl@ve and Certificado Digital

Question

My intention is to try and process my non lucrative Spain visa renewal online. I’ve just been through the process of getting a digital certificate and cl@ve key. It seems a lot more straightforward than the initial application. Has anyone been through this process and has any tips to share?

Also glad to share my experience on the digital certificate and cl@ve key process should anyone have any questions.

“We submitted our renewal online. You choose from a dropdown of options to match the document you are uploading. We spent a little time examining the options to be sure we were choosing the right ones. They only allow fairly small attachments, so some file compression was required. Once it’s submitted you can check the status online. Our renewal took 97 days to be approved in Valencia.”

“Getting the digital certificate and Cl@ve set up. I followed the procedure described in this ageinspain.org link. You get an email with a code generated for you NIE. You have to go in person to a government office to be identified. The email contained a link to find an office. We live near Malaga but were cat sitting in Madrid. I chose an office ( COA ) where I could book an appointment online. Other offices require you to call for an appointment, which my Spanish is not quite up to. We went to the office with our passports and TIE cards. We were asked some basic questions about our address. All very straight forward. Less than an hour after our appointment I got another email with a link to download the certificates. Clicked the link and they installed without problem. I next registered for Cl@ve which was a bit problematic as the registration would not work. Repeatedly coming up with an error “Error datos entrada: Fecha de caducidad vacía”. I googled the error and someone said you needed to wait a day or so. Which I did and when I retried I could register. I have the Cl@ve app on my phone from which I can get PIN numbers. So far I have requested a padron certificate online using Cl@ve and it worked well.”
