Spain Digital nomad visa: Do I need a sworn translation for my intent to register as autónomo?

Last Updated on April 18, 2026 by Bruno Bianchi

Question

Does anyone have a letter template or example for an “intent to register as autonomo” or Letter confirming a pledge to register autonomo for the Spain Digital Nomad Visa application? And is this a document that should be sworn translated or can it be a simple translation? Thank you!

(Professional answer) “It can be written in Spanish and signed.”

(Professional answer) “Hi, if in Spanish, no. If in another language, you can either translate yourself or do a sworn translation. If they don’t like the way you’ve done it, they’ll request that you do it another way.”

Conclusion

For applicants of the Spain Digital nomad visa who plan to register as autónomo (self-employed), a letter expressing the intent to do so can be straightforward. According to a group member, the letter can simply be written in Spanish and signed—no sworn (official) translation is required in this case.

This makes the process easier and less costly, provided the letter is clear and written in proper Spanish.
