Spain non lucrative visa: What counts as proof of address when applying at the London consulate?

Question

I plan to apply for my Spain non lucrative visa in London and drop the documents next week if all goes well. Would anyone please shed some light on the following:

  1. Proof of residence in the consular district. The applicant must provide proof of their legal residence in the consular district or that they are attending classes, in person, in the consular district. To verify your consular district, please visit the relevant web section of this Consulate.

Do you remember bringing any specific documents? Will an electricity bill suffice, or do I need something from Westminster Councill (where I live)? Thanks again, it has been great to count on your advice and experience!

“Proof of your registered home address. I.e. There are multiple consulates in UK, so you must prove that consulate is one that matches your address.”

“In the US, we use our driver’s license.”

“Drivers, licence, tax returns, utility bills.”

“Actually, your state identity card or driving license in US. UK has no identity card or local registration required by law.”

“I took my council tax bill.”

“I have a copy of the deeds to my house?”

“I had my Spanish solicitor complete the 790 forms, one for each of us, and also pay the fees. They emailed me this back, and I provided the copies at the consulate.”

“I’ve just dropped all of my paperwork off in London and they didn’t ask to see proof of address at all; they just took all of my paperwork in one go and went through it. It was very quick and efficient. Somehow I was missing Form 790, which I don’t recall being mentioned on the BLS site or the checklist.”

“We provided our stamped, dated, and signed bank statements, which displayed our names and home address in the UK (East Anglia) under the London consulate.”

Conclusion

Applicants for the Spain non lucrative visa at the London consulate report varied experiences when it comes to proving residence in the consular district.

Accepted documents include council tax bills, utility bills, stamped bank statements, and property deeds.

Some suggest that a UK driving license can help, while others note the UK does not have a legal identity card system like in other countries.

Interestingly, one member shared that they were not even asked for proof of address during their consulate appointment.

Still, having multiple official documents showing your name and current address within the London consular district appears to be a safe and widely accepted approach.
