Question
“I’ve just put my Spain Non Lucrative Visa application in and despite giving 6 months bank statements they are asking for financial means. What else should I send? I’m flummoxed. They don’t want tax returns.”

“We had to give 12 months bank statements but I don’t suppose that would change anything. You could try sending in evidence of any credit cards you have, which I believe can be taken as available funds.”
“Which Consulate have you applied through? We went through Edinburgh and they were great.” – London Consulate
“We have 6 months in Manchester, didn’t ask for anything else.”
“How exasperating for you. From my experience of Spanish bureaucracy, it’s necessary to take several deep breaths and don’t expect logic or efficiency.
I think I would be telling them they have the evidence already – really spell it out. They might be thinking the bank statements are evidence of your current address or something. Good luck!”
“You shouldn’t need anything else if you have the required amount in your bank accounts.”
“If all of your monies are in bank accounts perhaps they are asking for proof of where the monies come from. I.e sale of a house etc.”
“Proof of the income coming in like passive income.”
“Pension statements.”
“We just sent the same documents as were handed in and they accepted that!”
“Available balance on credit cards.”
“We gave them 1 year’s bank statements & our private pension forecast even though we’re not retired they’re getting more and more particular we’ve been back to the Spanish embassy four times and I’ve now got to go back yet more paperwork good luck.”
“We gave them statements of our savings account which showed in excess of the annual amount required.”
“They may be looking for passive income as well I.e pension if you are of pension age or if you are not how you are going to support yourself as the required amount will not be enough to live on for as year whilst you are here.”
“Hello, we are putting together our Spain Non Lucrative Visa documents. We were asked to submit 12 months of bank statements! This will show accounts where our retirement money is paid in.
Very onerous as we need to take 12-month bank statements x 2 to our bank to be stamped. We are still working but will finish end of July but receiving pensions too. We are also providing 12 months of joint / separate account to show our savings for the NLV requirement!
We are also asked to P45 and P60. The whole process is just too much but that’s what they’ve asked for! So, will abide!”
“What you don’t say is whether those showed the minimum financial criteria that is needed for Spain Non Lucrative Visa widely reported elsewhere and on this group. If they did meet the criteria ie 28,800 per annum in 2024 plus additional people, then it is an odd request.”
Conclusion
Applicants for the Spain Non Lucrative Visa often face confusion and variability in the financial documentation required by different Spanish consulates.
While some consulates may request only 3 to 6 months of bank statements, others may demand up to 12 months, alongside additional proof of financial stability such as credit card limits, pension statements, or evidence of passive income.
Understanding each consulate’s specific requirements and ensuring clear communication of financial means beyond simple bank statements can help mitigate delays and confusion in the visa application process.
