What are the next steps once the Spain Non Lucrative Visa has been awarded?

Answers

These are the answers of Spainguru’s Facebook group members:

“Get to the town hall and get your padrón. Then make your appointment for your TIE card. This needs to be done straight away. You may need to exchange your driving licence too.”

“That’s what I was looking for – Is there something about registering with the national police? or is that the TIE?” – “That’s the TIE. It’s your identification (residencia) card which they take your fingerprints for. You need it to do most things in Spain. I’d get a gestor to help you get an appointment as they are very difficult to source. I’ve been trying since January in the Almeria region.”

What are the next steps once the Spain Non Lucrative Visa has been awarded?

“We got to Alicante in mid-March, we couldn’t get our Padrón appointment until mid-June”

“We got our padrón last week, booked up tie last week, its been granted, fingerprints tomorrow all done in 4 weeks where in Sorbas (Almeria) had no problem.”

“Look for rental.” – “Where have you found the best source of furnished short term (1-3 months) rentals to be? Idealista? Air BnB? Others?” – “Idealista, fotocasa for long-term rentals. These are just platforms where anybody can post. Whether they are good or bad you need to judge yourself.”

“For 1 to 3 months rentals you should just try Airbnb. But why would you get such a short rental? You need to get a rental contract of at least 9 months to get registered at the local town hall which you need to do within 3 months upon arrival.”

“You have a time limit to arrive in Spain, use a direct flight from your destination to Spain or you have to report to the local police department in your municipality to explain.

Once in Spain you will need to found a rental with contact to bring with to the city hall and apply for the padrón.

The next step would be getting your fingerprints taken at a local police department, these two steps require prior appointments to be scheduled via their websites.

The actual TIE card is now 8 weeks out after fingerprinting and also requires an appointment, at least this is the case in Valencia.”

Conclusion

Upon receiving the Spain Non Lucrative Visa, several immediate steps are crucial to establish legal residency and begin integrating into Spanish society.

Key actions include registering for a padrón at the local town hall, applying for the TIE (foreigner identity card), and potentially exchanging a driving license. Securing housing, ideally with a rental contract of at least nine months, is essential for obtaining the padrón.

Challenges such as scheduling appointments for the TIE and navigating local bureaucracy underscore the benefit of assistance from a lawyer or gestor, especially in regions with high demand for appointments.
