Question
My husband and I are preparing to apply for Spain Non Lucrative Visa from Canada. We are going to arrange to have our criminal record checks, marriage certificate and health certificates apostilled so we can start to move forward with our application.
Can anyone let us know if there are any other items that also need to be apostilled, just wanting to make sure we are missing anything there. We are aware that we will need to get these documents translated afterwards as well and then can submit with our application. Thank you very much in advance!”
Answers
These are the answers of Spainguru’s Facebook group members:
“Medical certificate – notarized then apostilled, BACKGROUND AND FINGER PRINTS – apostilled, Letter of Intent – notarized, Wedding Certificate – Apostilled, All the above translated. That’s what I’ve been asked for.”
“Toronto consulate does not require letter of intent.”
“You in Toronto? How long did RCMP check take? 2 weeks 6 days – we’re in Alberta but have to submit paperwork to Toronto.”
“Hello, you also need your financial/bank documents notarized as well.”
“That’s what I’ve been asked for. We submitted:
Proof of income (pensions) notarized and apostille in Toronto, with translation. Bank statements for 12 months, stamped by the bank and no need to notarize or translate.
Medical certificate , we got the template with translation in Spanish from the website , notarized and apostille in Toronto. Letter of last day of work from the ex employer, notarized with apostille in Toronto, translated.
Fingerprints RCMP with apostille from Global affairs and translated. We did not submit letter of intent and we’re not asked for it.
To our surprise they did not take the Marriage certificate. They said they don’t need it although we had it notarized with apostille and translated. They gave us the passports back.”
They gave us a link to check the status of the application after 2-3 weeks. If we see Resolved we should drop off the passports to put the visas on it.”
“According to the website if the marriage certificate was issued in Canada doesn’t need apostille. But I know people always says it needs to be. So that’s confusing.”
“Things must have changed. We only needed our marriage cert and RCMP check authorized by GAC before the apostille requirement. Everything else was merely translated including our medical certificates. We also only needed 3 months bank statements. This was through Montreal. I thought it was only foreign government issued documents that need an apostille. We also did not need a letter of intent, although I did cover pages for each section that served as a short photo essay. It appears it’s become worse not better now Canada has joined the Hague agreement.”
Conclusion
The requirements for the Spain non lucrative visa as reported by Canadians are diverse and can vary by consulate.
Key documents like medical certificates, criminal record checks, and certain financial documents need to be apostilled and translated.
The need for a letter of intent seems to differ by consulate or even depending on who is handling your paperwork
It’s recommended to consult directly with the consulate or a legal advisor to ensure all necessary paperwork is correctly prepared.
